For the usage of the increasingly widespreaded multi channel sound at audio-visual media compability to two channel stereo or mono sound formats often needs to be guaranteed. With an automatic stereo downmix this compability can be reached efficiently.
Current methods implicate problems regarding the tone colour, space, sound volume and the reproduction. Thereby the technical quality as well as artistic aspects of the production are influenced negatively.
The Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT) has developed a new downmix method whose algorithm avoid distracting effects or compensates them effectively. The MAGIC SP2 Downmix System uses this new IRT algorithm to provide optimal sound quality.
